About Us

  This course is for anyone who is involved in the assessment and intervention of young children -- parents, family members, caregivers, interventionists, educators, therapists, and healthcare professionals.

Content of this online course will include an introduction to the Performance Competence Framework (PC Framework) which is a new model of assessment that focuses on a holistic view of the child within the context of personal characteristics, preferences, environments, family and culture. The Framework provides shared windows through which family members and professionals from various disciplines may look in assessing or providing services to young children. The shared windows encourage the identification of critical factors that support and compromise a child’s performance.

Participants will learn to:

  • use technology involved in completing an online course;
  • apply the basic principles of the PC Framework and qualitative assessment;
  • describe the neurophysiological and behavioral correlates of the sensory processing system;
  • explain the comfort, safety, confidence and risk cycle;
  • apply the basic tenants of family-centered practice;
  • apply effective communication techniques with families; and
  • demonstrate the ability to work as a team member with shared perspectives.
