Introduction

UMDPrint has been created to provide for more efficient and configurable spine label printing in conjunction with the Aleph(tm) client.*

The Aleph client can be configured to use an external label printing utility. When so configured, text for the label is exported in a temporary xml data file. UMDPrint accepts this xml file and parses it.

UMDPrint then formats a spine label which the user can edit before printing.

UMDPrint is a "one up" printing solution and cannot be used to handle batch label printing. UMDPrint can print to continuous pinfed label stock, or it can be used with thermal transfer label printers, such as Zebra's TLP2844.

UMDPrint's Flexibility

Each differentiable 'label group' can have it's own label format.

When item information is received from the Aleph client, UMDPrint recognizes the item's label group. Format options specified for that group are applied automatically.

A 'label group' as defined by UMDPrint is:
"All items which share identical values in these four fields: SubLibrary,

Collection,
Material Type,
Call Number Type"

At a single workstation, UMDPrint can have three defined 'printer profiles'. And each 'label group' can be assigned to a specific printer profile.

Thus, after printing the spine label for a book, a label for the front of a CD case can be printed - with each label automatically directed to the printer loaded with the appropriate label stock.

The information associated with each printer profile includes:

Printer Name

Font Name

Font Size

Font Style (normal / bold / italic / bolditalic)

Label Length

Form Length (from top of one label to top of next label)
Option to disable form feed distance control in UMDPrint
Option to print label in landscape mode
