The problems with abortion throughout the world have a large part to do with morality. Catholics and Christians which costitute the majority of the world's religous members are adimately opposed to abortion with a few exceptions of denominations allowing in in extreme cases. The main moral issue in abortion is whether it constitutes murder or not. Some say that a child is not fully human until it emerges from the woman's body, others believe that "ensoulment" takes place at the moment of conception and thus any concious elimination or prevention of a pregnancy constitutes killing that soul. There are many areas of middle ground on this issue, generally however the agreement is that if an abortion is to take place it should be within the first 3 to four months of pregnancy as this is before the fetus is recognizably human.

Religion Stand on Abortion Any Exceptions
Cristians

Catholic: Wrong under all circumstances.

Other Christians:Some christian denominations believe that abortion may be permisable if the womans life is in danger.

Some christian groups such as the Baptists, Unitarians and Prespreterians approve of abortion in cases of rape or incest or if the mothers mental or physical health is in danger.
Muslims Most scholars view Islam as accepting of abortion if the pregnancy threatens the womans life, but that as the pregnancy progresses it gradualy becomes less acceptable. Some Scholars believe ensoulment happens at the moment the sperm enters the uterus and thus all abortion is wrong.
Hindus Abortion is killing and thus incompatable with thier lifestyle of non-violence. Abortions to save the life or health of the mother are permitted.
Buddhists Abortion interferes with reincarnation and all creatures are sentient beings including a fertilized egg so abortion is killing. Abortion is a decision that a woman must make for herself. There are rituals for a woman to purify herself after having an abortion.
Jews If a womans life is in danger an abortion is manditory, her life takes absolute precedence. There is no unified view of abotion in Judaism. Most Rabbi's take a pro-choice lean
