Kansas City
July 2003, May 2004
In 2003, I drove with Brian and Steven to KC to catch some Royals/Twins games. We stayed at the Drury Inn, right across the street from the stadium complex. The Twin's didn't play so hot, but we won Krispy Kreme donuts because of a promotional thing at Kauffman Stadium where if the Royals get 12 or more hits in a game you can redeem your ticket stub for a dozen free donuts. We didn't really get to check out the area much. We just slept in and swam in the pool during the second day, and the third game was a day game so we left right after that.

In 2004 we went again, this time after our awesome senior party out on a small island in the Mississippi. We left early that next morning, which meant a 6 hour drive and a baseball game on no sleep. This time Steven and Curtis drove, and Stephen, Eric, Brian, and I rode along. The Twin's only won one of three games if I remember correctly, but we did win Krispy Kremes again. This time we checked out the town a little more. We went into downtown KC one day and found a memorial park filled with several hundred people and there was an orchestra concert going on. We played catch there and checked out the memorial, where we found a cooler surrounded by officers that were suspicious of a bomb, but it turned out some guy just left it there. Another day we ate at Gates Barbeque, which was super good, and picked up some BBQ sauce. We went to nearby Independance, MO and watched "The Day After Tomorrow", an experience that was amplified by real tornado warning sirens that were going off at the time. I also wandered over to Barns and Noble and daydreamed about reading various books.
Unfortunately we didn't make it to KC in 2005, but maybe this summer we'll make it back down.
