Who Should Take This Course?

Biol 1112, Animal Biology

This is the second (or third if Biol 1113 has been completed) course of the current three quarter General Biology sequence at UMD. Biol 1111 is the prerequisite course for both and may be followed by Biol 1112 (Animal Biology) or 1113 (Plant Biology) in either order. This summer session quarter is the final offering of Biol 1112, since the University will begin a semester format in the fall of 1999. Next year, much of the content of this course will be included in the second semester, General Biology II, Plant and Animal Biology. Biol 1113, Plant Biology, was offered during SSI of this year and will be offered a final time, Fall 1999, for students wishing to complete the sequence.

The sequence of General Biology (1111-1112-1113) is intended for a variety of students, including biology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, preprofessional programs such as pre-dentistry, pre-fishery and wildlife management, pre-medicine, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-veterinary medicine and allied health sciences and allied health sciences, as well as liberal education in Category 2. For more detailed information, see pp. 43-44 and pp.196-198 of the current '97-'99 UMD Bulletin.
