UMD OFFERS PUBLIC AFFAIRS LECTUREFree at 12pm noon, 90 Bohannon Hall (moved from Griggs Center)Saturday, November 19, 2005 Brought to you by the Center for Advocacy and Political Leadership Jenson v. Eveleth Mines Lois Jenson and five Iron Range women miners will speak about the first sexual harassment class action lawsuit initiated by the working conditions at the Eveleth mines. The book Class Action and the new movie release, North Country, are based on this landmark case.
Lois Jenson, who initiated this case, will speak with Judy Henry, Sue Ann Succio, Dee Sabin, Gloria Huseby, and Cherie Averill-Manner, who were all among the first women hired as miners witnessing both the harassment and changes in employment practices. “We’re attempting,” said Wy Spano, Director of the Center for Advocacy and Political Leadership, “to bring in speakers who’ll be interesting to our masters degree classes here at the Center but also of interest to those in the Twin Ports interested in public policy.” PRESENTATION LOCATION at UMD: 90 Bohh, Bohannon Hall (moved from Griggs Center) at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
