About MAPL
The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota Duluth offers a Master of Advocacy and Political Leadership (MAPL) program through the Center of Advocacy and Political Leadership. This is an applied degree, designed for persons in Minnesota and western Wisconsin with experience or interest in having an impact on and changing public policy through positions as local community leaders, labor leaders, government relations specialists in businesses, nonprofit sector policy advocates, inter-governmental relations specialists, political operatives, lobbyists, elected and appointed officials, staff to policy-makers, and citizens. This program seeks to create a professional group of ethically grounded advocates and organizers. Students come from throughout the region and many are already working in one of the above interest areas, either professionally or advocationally, or hoping to work in one of these areas.
At the beginning of each semester, cohorts of no more than 15 students begin the program and progress together through the four semesters (two years) required to complete their Master's Degree. Classes meet 11 times per semester on Friday evenings and all day Saturdays at the University of Minnesota in Duluth. Lodging is provided for students commuting a significant distance to Duluth. Roundtrip transportation from the Twin Cities is provided for each class weekend.
