MAPL is designed for people who are energetic, enthusiastic and deeply committed to making change happen. People in the MAPL program want to make a difference in their communities.
Take, for example, MAPL graduate Kristina Handt. On August 28th, the Scandia, MN City Council agreed to hire Handt as their next City Administrator. She will begin September 17th. Handt says she is excited about the opportunity. "I'm looking forward to meeting all the people, getting around and getting to know the community."
While Handt was completing her MAPL degree, she interned first with Grassroots Solutions, a consulting firm, in 2006, and second, with the City of Minnestrista in 2007. In 2008, just a year after completing her MAPL degree, Handt became the village administrator for the Village of Luck, Wisconsin. Prior to her position in Luck, Handt was a legislative assistant for MN State Sen. Gary Kubly for four years.
