Bill Moore is an adult educator and union activist. He coordinates and, with other faculty, teaches the labor courses in the MAPL curriculum. Moore retired in 2007 from the Minnesota AFL-CIO – umbrella organization of most labor unions in the state – where he was chief of staff and, prior to that, communications director.

Before employment with the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Moore was a stay-at-home father during the day and taught Labor Studies, evenings, at Metropolitan State University. Prior to that, he taught high school in rural Lesotho, worked as a staff representative for Council 65 of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and was liaison for education and organizing with the Urban Affairs Commission (UAC) of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

In addition to teaching in the MAPL program, Moore volunteers with union political organizing drives, the Invest in Minnesota Campaign, Minnesota First and the Workers’ Interfaith Network.

Moore has earned MA degrees in Philosophy and Theology from Aquinas Institute, now located in St. Louis, MO, and in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota. He also holds a graduate certificate from Hamline University in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Spending time with family and friends, reading, gardening, walking, cycling – anything out of doors – are Moore’s recreations.

Moore grew up on Fort Snelling and attended Cretin High School in St. Paul and Loras College in Dubuque IA. He lives in St. Paul with Mary Wagner, a professor and Master of Library and Information Science Program Director at the College of St. Catherine. They have two daughters.
