Book Cues with Stage Manager and Director

(Paper Tech)

• Purpose - Assign cue numbers sequentially in Stage Manager's production book.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director
• Talk through lighting in relation to the action of the production with director

Level Set

(Dry Tech)

• Purpose - Program lighting levels for each cue in the lighting control console.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, light board operator
• Master Electrician begins dimmer check before every technical rehearsal and performance
• (It's nice to have ASMs to walk the stage.)
• Director is invited, but not required to be there
• Record time for each cue

213 channels x 200 cues = 42,600 decisions
42,600 x 2 sec = 85,200 seconds = 23 2/3 hours!

Cue to Cue Without Actors

• Purpose - Practice for light board operator (particularly for difficult manual cues).
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, light, sound, and shift crews
• Stage Manager calls cues
• Coordinate light cues with sound, and scenic shifts

Cue to Cue With Actors

(Stop and Go)

• Purpose - Stage Manager calls cues, adjusting timing as necessary.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, cast, light, sound, and shift crews
• Coordinate light cues with sound, shifts, and action
• Dialogue without cues omitted
• Change cue times as required by Stage Manager
• Change levels as time permits
• Take focus notes

Tech Run

• Purpose - Run entire show with lights, sound, and scenic shifts.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, cast, light, sound, and shift crews
• Include all dialogue
• Stop and start for technical problems if necessary
  
• Change levels as time permits
• Take focus notes and program notes

1st Dress

• Purpose - Full run with costumes included.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, cast, light, sound, shift and wardrobe crews
• Change levels as time permits
• Take focus notes and program notes
• View production from different vantage points

2nd Dress

• Purpose - Full run with costumes and make-up included.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, cast, and all running crews
• Make-up added to full run-through
• Change levels as time permits
• Take focus notes and program notes
• View production from different vantage points

Final Dress

• Purpose - Full run with costumes, make-up and an invited audience.
• Personnel - lighting designer, stage manager, director, cast, and all running crews
• Invited audience optional
• Stage Manager and Light Board Operator move to the booth
• Watch show from variety of locations in the house
• Take focus notes and program notes

Opening Night

• Personnel - stage manager, cast, and all running crews
• Master Electrician, Stage Manager, and Light Board Operator take control of lighting design
• Express appreciation for efforts of the crew
