Stage Management

Stage Manager Production Book

1. Purpose. Compare three samples of the following types of forms used by stage managers. Samples should show how the same information can be organized in three distinct ways. Choose styles that clearly indicate specific advantages or disadvantages of each document.

2. Samples. Examples submitted can be:

• created on your own
• created by another student
• photocopied from reference books
• printed from the internet

A good place to start your search might be: http://www.d.umn.edu/~mharvey/websitestagemanagement.html

All samples from reference books, other students, or the internet must be labeled with the source of the document.

3. Documents should be placed in sections in a three-ring binder in the following order:

• Production Calendar
• Audition Form
• Contact Sheet
• Rehearsal Schedule
• Rehearsal Report
• Blocking Notation (as it might be incorporated into the script)
• Tech Week Schedule
• Prompt Book Layout, including cueing notation
• Pre-show Check List
• Performance Report

4. Commentary. In your own words, on a single typewritten page for each document, decribe the features of each document and how it might be better organized, more functional, or better formatted than other examples. Describe how each document might be useful in a particular situation under the following headings.

• What you like.
• What you don't like.
• Would you use it?
• Why?
• Source:

5. Presentation. Be prepared to point out specific differences of each document in your production book to the class.

6. Hand project in to the instructor. Be sure your name is on the inside cover of the three ring binder. No projects will be accepted after the last day of class.
