Internship in Professional Theatre
Developing a Syllabus

Due to the individualized nature of TH 5997 Internship in Professional Theatre, students interested in enrolling in this course must develop a syllabus before given permission to enroll.

Syllabi have four parts. When submitting a syllabus, be sure to include all four parts of the syllabus.


Part I: Title

At the top of the page indicate the title of the course, semester you want to register for the course, and the number of credits you want to register for:

Example: TH 5997 Internship in Professional Theatre
Fall 2016
12 credits


Part II: Learning Outcomes

This part of the syllabus is where you explain in a single sentence what the course is about. Since every internship is unique, be as specific as possible, including dates of the internship.

Example: Learning Outcomes: The student will take part in stage management for a professional theatre company by working with the Guthrie Theatre Company from September until December 2017.


Part III: Course Requirements:

This part of the syllabus lists what's required for the course.

Example: Course Requirements:
1. Written Journal - entries at least once per week as internship progresses indicating work accomplished and number of hours worked.

2. 40 hours of work for each credit of the internship.


Part IV: Course Assessment:

This part of the syllabus explains how your work will be evaluated. TH 5997 is an S-N course (pass/fail) so no letter grade will be assigned to the course. Credits for TH 5997 have no affect on your academic GPA.

1. Written assessment by (state the name of your immediate supervisor here) during the internship.

2. Written self-assessment.
