Task ONE: Different Perspectives

For years you have been taught that non-fiction is writing with facts. It is the real events, people and statistics that tell the reader what really happened. But like fiction you as a reader must be critical of non-fiction writing as well.

For Task ONE:

1. Find a partner.

2. Check out the tutorial on Critical Media Literacy.

After you have finished answer the following questions.

3. Compare two news headlines for today.BBC and Fox News.

A. What are the differences in the reporting? What do they say about the bias?

B. How does the headline persuade/inform you?

C. Is any point of view left out?

D. What slant/bias would you say these two headlines have?

E. What is the opinion they want you to have when you finish reading?
