Name: _____________________________
Peer Review Day: _____________________ Peer Review preparation & participation: 4 pts.
Final Packet Due: _____________________ Staple: final draft, 1st draft, this scoresheet
GOALS
This assignment will give you practice in paraphrasing material written by others. Paraphrasing is an essential
skill which you will use in writing research papers.
ASSIGNMENT
You will paraphrase an article given to you by your instructor, keeping in mind the guidelines for paraphrasing
in CW p. 19-25. Evaluation is not a part of paraphrasing, so do not include your opinion of the article--just
paraphrase it. Do not refer to yourself in this essay. Do not include too many specific examples, either the author's
or your own. Plagiarizing or quoting the author of the assigned article will result in a deduction of 50% in the
earned points that cannot be made up.
REQUIREMENTS
Your paraphrase should be one to one and a half pages long (double-spaced). Any less and it may not be
complete; any more and it may be too exhaustive and unacceptable as a paraphrase.
USING & CITING SOURCES
Since this essay has only one source, you may list the MLA external citation at the end of your last page, rather than on a separate bibliography page. Additionally, introduce the article's title and the author's full name at the beginning of your paraphrase, and refer to the author (by last name) frequently as the source of the ideas you are paraphrasing. Final drafts submitted without a bibliographic citation and/or internal references to the author of the article will receive an automatic score of zero that cannot be made up.
