Related Service Provider Observation/ Job Shadow Format
Due September 30th
For the professional that you observe (Occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech, language therapist, early childhood special educator/interventionist) complete an observation in which you share the following information. (30 points)
- Background information on job shadow. ( 5 points)
- Who did you job shadow
- Where/when did you job shadow this professional?
- What activities were the professional and student(s) engaged in?
- What strategies did the professional use to encourage the goals apparently included in the child’s IEP? (15 points)
- List some specific strategies that he/she uses and if possible, share the rationale behind using these strategies (i.e. if the OT uses brushing, it may be because the child has sensory processing challenges).
- How does the OT/PT/SL or early childhood educator connect these strategies into the child’s daily routine in the classroom/at home…Does he/she share these strategies with the classroom teacher/parents for carryover of goals…If so, how? If not, how might this be done?
- List some ways in which these activities could be carried over/generalized and extended into the classroom setting…not necessarily in an identical activity, but in an activity that would encourage use of the same skills.
- Summarize your experience by sharing reactions to information that you gathered as a result of this assignment. (5 points)
- What new information did you gain?
- How might you apply this to future experiences as an early childhood team member?
- Any additional information that you wish to share (i.e. the program itself, children that you had the opportunity to observe during a therapy session).
