PART I ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEM ASSESSMENT

Part one of this assignment requires you to assess an organizational problem. You should identify a problem that is/has occurred in an agency or organization you are familiar with (preferably an agency where you are doing a field placement or working). If you are in the child welfare program, you are encouraged to use a child welfare agency as your case example. There is a sample paper on library reserve and on file in the student work area that should be helpful to you. Please use the following format:

Introduction

Provide a brief description of the agency, including; the mission of the agency, the services provided and types of clients served. Briefly describe the problem situation, provide a brief history of the problem and who has identified it as a concern. Identify the sources of data from which the data for this report was collected.

Background Information

Use separate headings for each of the areas listed below. Relate these areas to the presenting problem when discussing them.

*formal organizational characteristics

*interpersonal dynamics/ organizational culture

Assessment

*Present a clear summary of the problem situation, including the different perspectives of those involved (2 points)

*Analyze the background information to explain what factors are contributing to and/or causing the problems situation (6 points)

*Evaluate the variables working for or against change (2 points)

*Assess your personal reality (1 point)

*Evaluate the potential success of an organizational change process (1 point)

PART II ORGANIZATION INTERVENTION PLAN

Part II of this assignment involves writing a clear plan for addressing problem (s) identified in your assessment. Write a goal, objectives and tasks as listed below.

* Goal(s)

Identify, at least, one goal that addresses the problem situation (2 point)

* Objectives

Write two measurable objectives for each goal. Write, at least, one of your objectives for each goal in quantifiable, outcome oriented terms.

( e.g. The clinical staff will reduce the waiting list for client services by 20% by the end of February). The objectives for each goal should be listed under it. (4 points)

* Tasks

Identify specific tasks for meeting each of the objectives. The tasks for each objective should be listed under it. (2 points)

* Conclusion

Briefly describing the possible barriers, as well as strengths of the plan
