Unofficial History of the Northland Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine.

The Northland Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine began accepting members in 1975.

The first three meetings were held in Minneapolis. The Fourth Annual meeting, Frontiers of Sports Medicine, was held in Omaha, Nebraska. Anyone having any records or details of these meetings is encouraged to contact the chapter office: nacsm@d.umn.edu.

The Fifth Annual meeting was held in the Spring of 1980 at the Leamington Hotel in Minneapolis. The KeyNote address was given by Dr. Oded Barr-Or.

The chapter switched its annual meeting to the Fall beginning in 1981. The thought was to hold the meeting in conjunction with a big event, to try to increase attendance. The Friday night session in Minneapolis drew 13 people.

1987 brought the first spring tutorial meeting. It was held at St. Cloud State University, in what is now the graduate student desk area of the Human Performance Lab. Anyone having any records or details of these meetings is encouraged to contact the chapter office: nacsm@d.umn.edu.

The second spring tutorial was held in the Atwood Center on the St. Cloud Campus. This has been the sight of all Spring Tutorials with the exception of the 2001 Spring Tutorial that was held in Minneapolis.

In the Spring of 1991, Chapter Leaders met for the first ever Strategic Planning session. Much of what we are today originated in that planning session. Led by Executive Secretary Jack Ewing, leaders like Jack Kelly, Mur Gilman, Dale Moss and others paved the way for the chapter's future.

The Chapter celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Minneapolis in October 2000. Pictured at chapter founders, from left to right Bill Bell, Bob Serfass, Jack Kelly, and Art Leon.
