ELEMENTARY STUDENT TEACHING SUPERVISION GUIDELINES

You will need to set up a Readiness Meeting with your cooperating teacher and myself before student teaching begins. Schools with multiple student teachers need only one Readiness Meeting with everyone there.

I will email all of you most Sundays about expectations for the upcoming observations and a journal topic. Email will be my main source of communication. You can also call me to schedule observations.

OBSERVATIONS/LESSONS AND UNITS

Each time I observe you teach, I will need to see (have these ready before the scheduled observation):

During my observations, I will need a place to sit with a clear view of where you will be teaching. I will need to observe the following lessons during your student teaching experience:

1. Reading

2. Math

3. Science/ Social Studies

4. A unit lesson

5. Your choice

PORTFOLIO

You will add 1 new artifact and reflection for each standard during student teaching. Your portfolio will be collected and graded on my 4th observation. You will be required to come to an end of the semester portfolio meeting on the UMD campus.

You can access the Elementary Student Teaching Handbook online at:
