From the Desk of Tim White

By all accounts, I am happy to report that PEC '09 was a success. Great snow, first class facilities, top-notch speakers and programs, and more than 250 enthusiastic attendees made for a first-rate conference.

Primarily a leadership conference, the Board showed real initiative during the Mid-Winter Board meeting, held at PEC, by voting to create National Alumni and National Women's programs. Both are very important for future recruitment and retention efforts. Watch for more details about these programs in the coming months.

It would not be an NSP conference without awards. Notable winners include National Legal Advisor Bob Scarlett, who received the National Chair's Outstanding Administrative Patroller award. Well deserved, as Bob is arguably the most dedicated volunteer in the organization. Other award winners include the three-man team from Snow King Resort in Jackson, Wyo., who were the recipients of the Patroller Challenge Victory Cup. We understand that the Cup was officially christened by winners Galen Parke, Tyler Hartz and Chaz Yonce during the evening's celibratory party.

I would also like to give one final hearty thanks to Bill Sinykin and the team from the Intermountain Division, as well as other volunteers such as Dr. David Johe and Frey Aarnio, who contributed greatly to the success of the conference.

One final note to the membership: The national office is in the process of upgrading member activity records. We request that you review your profile page to determine if your senior core and elective components are up to date. If not, complete an Activity Record Form (available on the log-in area of nsp.org, under "member news") and return it to Carol Hudson at the NSP.

Enjoy spring, stay safe, and thanks for all you do for the NSP,

Tim

Meet a Member of the National Office Staff

Denis MeadeDenis Meade

303-988-1111  ext.2623

Denis joined the NSP in August 2007 as education director. He assists all NSP national program directors in developing products and services that enhance the knowledge and skills of NSP members. Currently, he is busy helping to edit the OEC 5th edition. He is also working to help the organization develop a variety of creative distance learning solutions.

Why He Loves Colorado: Warm days, cool nights, relatively low humidity, more sunny days than San Diego, record snowfalls and year-round access to world class outdoor activities.

Fun Facts: Denis has worked in Emergency Medical Services for more than 27 years and teaches emergency medicine at several local colleges. He is an early American history buff and a genealogist whose linage goes back to the Domesday book. He has climbed more than half of Colorado's famed "14ers" and is currently writing a screenplay.

Snow Skills:

Denis can fall gracefully down any slope but has a deep aversion to bumps! Although he has skied at nearly all of Colorado's beautiful resorts, he can most frequently be found making turns at Arapahoe Basin.
