BIWABIK - On Sept 28/29, 2002 in conjunction with the Western Region Fall Meeting, a Mountain Travel and Rescue Level I course was held.  Ten students attended the course taught by Daryl Coons, Western Region Mountain Travel & Rescue Supervisor, Mike Peters and Howard Holz.  This basic level course is an introduction to skills that are useful to any patrol member who spends time in the outdoors at any time of the year.  The classroom session on Saturday covered basic skills with some time outside to practice map and compass skills and emergency shelter building skills.  On Sunday morning, eight of the students were able to join Daryl and Howard for the field session where the students got to practice the skills discussed on Saturday including lunch at the top of the ski area.  What a view!
