Afton NSP OEC Refresher

Tauma Patient
Patrollers Tim, Mary, and Houstoun are first on the scene where "GI Joe" apparently hit a tree.  Or maybe Joe was a hunter who fell out of the tree;  3 deer observed the rescue from 100 yards up hill!  Joe is not an "ordinary dummy", but is a specially weighted training device weighing about 150 pounds.

Sager Splint
Wayne applies a Sager traction splint to Connie as Doug, one of Afton's new OEC instructors, looks on.  Sager is one of three traction splint models available at Afton.

AFTON -  Afton Alps Ski Patrol conducted its annual Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)  refresher on October 4, 2003.  An OEC refresher has two objectives:   First, it meets NSPS national requirements covering about a third of the OEC curricula each ski season.   Secondly, it allows each ski patrol to (a) review local policies and procedures, such as protocols for evacuating patients, and (b) provides patrollers opportunity to practice with newly acquired medical devices used by that patrol.

AED station

Lee applies AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) device to "Annie" at the simulated cardiac arrest station as other patrollers "stand clear"!
