After the breakfast meeting, patrollers assemble at the Mora High School to prepare their packs in advance of departing to their assigned starting locations along the course. (Note: patrollers with assignments near the race starts, were already on the trails at the time this picture was taken.)

MORA -  The 2006 Mora Vasaloppet X-C Ski Race.

February 12th, 2006 was an absolutely perfect winter day for a cross-country ski race. Enough snow had fallen during the preceding two weeks so that the various length races could follow their traditional routes.

Providing on-the-trail first aid support at the Mora Vasaloppet represents the primary patrolling event for the Viking Nordic Patrol.

As with the American Birkebeiner, patrollers at the Mora Vasaloppet races organize into two-person teams, and ski an assigned segment during an assigned time period, providing uniform patroller course coverage. Team pairs are selected based upon desired skiing speed and length of skiing segment.

This event is not restricted to members of the Viking Nordic Patrol. If you are a Nordic-qualified patroller (or an Alpine patroller with strong x-c skiing skills), and would enjoy a day of patrolling at a premier x-c ski race, Renee Johnson (Viking Nordic PR) would like to hear from you.

Patrollers relaxing and conversing after the race
At the end of the race, somewhat wearier patrollers gather again at the Mora High School for a FREE meal, and to go over the happenings of the day, before saying good-bye until next time.
