Welcome! The Central Division Western Region of the National
Ski Patrol has established this Web site to provide patrollers in the Region
with the most current information about Region events and NSP programs,
and a comprehensive, on-line information resource about activities relating
to ski patrolling.
Check out the latest news. Does
your Patrol have something to sell or give to other Patrols? ...a special
announcement to make? This is the place.
All of the Region's training
and evaluation events, meetings, and special events are shown in the Region
Calendar. Patrols are invited to have their events scheduled here as well.
We strive to keep this current and complete.
In here you'll find the Western
Region's administrators, advisors, section chiefs, patrol representatives,
instructor trainers and instructor trainer candidates listed. Need to contact
one of these folks? Getting in touch with the person you need may just be
a few clicks away.
Many patrollers believe the
NSP is unsurpassed with respect to providing continuing education opportunities
for its members and the public. Inside, you'll find information relating to
the Basic & Senior Nordic Programs, Senior Emergency Management (formerly Senior
OEC), Senior Alpine Skiing & Toboggan, Senior Auxiliary, Certified Patroller,
Level I & Level II Avalanche, Level I & Level II Mountain Travel and Rescue (formerly
Mountaineering), Leadership Development (formerly Patroller
Enrichment), Ski Trainers Workshop, Alpine Ski & Toboggan Enhancement Seminars,
Instructor Development and mentoring, Patroller 101, and all of the related forms
and registration materials.
Check out the links to some well-known NSP courses in other Divisions relating
to backcountry skiing, search and rescue, mountaineering, and avalanche.
You'll even find some pictures inside of past training and evaluation events.
Take a moment to recognize our
dedicated patrollers who have brought honor and distinction to our organization.
Check out the "Class of ..." links which list our successful candidates and
graduates, whose significant commitment of time and effort to learn and demonstrate
the required skills associated with the certification they have sought, promises
of continued dedicated service.
Maybe you know a patroller who deserves an award for service above and beyond
the call of duty. The award nomination forms are all inside.
Leaving active service doesn't
have to mean saying good-bye to the NSPS. If you are a former patroller and
you would like to maintain an affiliation with the National Ski Patrol, there's
a place for you as an NSP alumni member. You might be surprised to discover
the many ways alumni continue to serve our organization.
We've compiled a collection
of NSP and related documents to help support the understanding and management
of risk. Included are Patrol Officer Bulletins (POB's), memoranda, and articles
asserting the position of the National Ski Patrol on these issues. Included
also is the NSP Central Division Release of Liability form.
Inside you'll find links to Minnesota and Wisconsin statutes relating to volunteers
and the "Good Samaritan" laws. Provided also are links to resources addressing
infection control and the latex allergy.
Perhaps the best kept secrets
within the NSP are the extensive collections of support materials for our
members. Inside you'll find links to the NSP Lending Library, Promotional
Resources, Ski Patrol Magazine Archives, and the Instructor's Web -- providing
education, training, and mentoring materials supporting every education program
offered by the NSP. Truly superb lesson plans and teaching aids have been
prepared by NSP officials, or have been donated by innovative instructors
and patrollers. You'll even find recipes and tips relating to the art and
science of applying moulage (available within the OEC section.)
And these materials are not just for instructors. All patrollers are welcome
to use these materials to improve their skills.

In addition to ski areas in the Western Region, are links to Web Site Indexes
of Ski Areas ... anywhere in the world.
This page is devoted to providing
links to individual Patrol Web sites.
To help Patrols "get on the Web", our Region is willing to provide space in
the Region Web site for a Patrol home page and some specific Patrol documents
such as membership ("How do I join?") information, candidate information,
Basic OEC class schedule, on-the-hill toboggan-handling training schedule,
Patrol officer roster, etc.
Inside you'll also find links to some other very well done Patrol Web sites
in other Regions within our Division.
Inside is a collection of links
to some regional EMS agencies and wilderness EMS, search and rescue, avalanche,
and backcountry safety education organizations. You'll also find links to
Web sites containing information about Hepatitis, spinal cord injuries, latex
allergy, and the "S.T.A.R.T." triage algorithm.
Have a little fun and test your knowledge at the same time with some interesting
skill reviews and challenging EMS scenarios.
Especially noteworthy is a link to the new NSP Outdoor Emergency Care Online
Review Web site, which is designed to help patrollers evaluate their mastery
of material found in the fourth edition of Outdoor Emergency Care and
the OEC Refresher Study Guide.
This page is intended to serve
our candidates. It will also be useful to folks thinking about joining a Patrol.
Inside we'll post information such as the Outdoor Emergency Care class schedules,
on-the-hill toboggan-handling training schedules, "How do I join?", candidate
requirements and evaluation procedures, and other membership information resources
submitted by our Region's ski patrols.
