December 21, 2006 -- It's that time again for a sales pitch to elicit help for another national nordic x-country ski race here in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan; precisely Houghton/Michigan Technological University.

You probably already have come across the info via other channels: Powderline, Rusty Parka News, Dan Dalquist, word of mouth, etc. Anyways, the events will take place between the 1st and 7th of January 2007 on the Michigan Tech nordic trails just like the Junior Olympics last year.

We can use current nordic/alpine patrollers on nordic skis, snowshoes or foot. In your free time there is plenty of great downhill and cross country skiing in the area (1 hour radius). Just to list some: Mount Ripley, Mount Bohemia, Porkies, Swedetown, Maasto Hiihto....

Unfortunately so far no local motel has donated rooms for volunteers, hopefully that will change though. In the meantime we are planning to do private accommodations. You can read page 20 in the latest Rusty Parka for more info or go to www.seniornationals.org for more detailed info and schedule of the daily events.

Please forward this message to any other patroller that you think might be interested to help spread the word (I don't have everybody's current e-mail available). I would appreciate a definite answer as soon as possible so I can work on the logistics! Thanks!

New Central Division Senior Manual

The Central Division is developing a new manual for the Senior Program. The purpose of the Central Division Senior Manual is to provide the patrollers in Western Region and all of Central Division with a common document of education about the Senior Program. The primary goal of the Central Division Manual is to maintain integrity and consistency of the Senior Program across all Regions in the Division. The Division encourages cross-boundry exchanges between the Regions, the sharing of ideas and resources, and striving for continuous Senior Program improvement. We presently have the Senior Alpine section completed. The Senior Nordic, Auxiliary, and Emergency Management sections are in development.
- Chris Moe (Central Division Senior Program Supervisor)
