SW 5235: Presentation and Paper Analysis Format
- Problem Definition: What social policy are you addressing? Provide statistics and contextual (background) factors.
- Describe the policy: what implicit and explicit objectives does the policy have to address to the problem? Does the policy adequately address the problem? How could it be improved?
- What current programs or activities have been developed to address the identified problem/policy? Who are the stakeholders? What strategies have been employed to address issues? What structure has been developed? How are programs funded? (describe the adequacy of funding). How is funding delivered? Who has jurisdiction over programs? (tribes, counties, states, federal, joint)
- Propose/develop a new approach/program (you may build off of existing program described in #3). How would you go about trying to make this happen? (Ex: change or develop new policy?) What barriers would you anticipate? How would you address them?
- How would you evaluate your program/approach for effectiveness?
Include cultural competence and be specific about the criteria you would use.
Grading Criteria for Presentations:
0=not addressed; 1=somewhat addressed; 2=exceptionally addressed; (10 points total). Everyone should participate equally in the presentation. You are graded as a group.
Grading Criteria for Papers:
In addition to the above content, you must provide an introduction to the topic/policy, a review of the literature related to the topic, why you choose to address this policy (significance of problem), an example of a current program that addresses the policy, and your ideas to improve upon the program or try a new approach. Wrap up your paper with a summary section. You must demonstrate graduate level writing skills. You will be graded for content, writing ability, and overall readability (up to 3 points for each section=15 total points).
