COMP 3220 Exercises: COMP 5230 Exercises: Zeldman.com - A weblog maintained by a web designer who's obsessed with CSS and XHTML certification. Make sure your page looks nice in every browser. A List Apart - A vast resource for writing happy code. Want to create a mailto: link that works but can't be mined and spammed by bots? Want Dreamweaver to produce valid XHTML mark up? Check it out. SmartFTP - An FTP program that, like WS_FTP, is free but, unlike WS_FTP, doesn't suck. Super easy to use, intuitive interface, and doesn't look like it was spun off DOS 6.2 to work under Windows 3.1. Greymatter - A wonderful piece of server-side publishing software. She saw me through summer camp. She can work for you, too. Movable Type - Another great server-side publisher. More complicated to install than Greymatter, but much more powerful. Danesbored.com runs on this program, herbal tea and Altoids. |
about
me
I am currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth, pursuing a major in writing and minors in jazz studies and philosophy. Last summer I worked as the windsurfing director at a leading Minnesota summer camp. Sometimes the kids would have fun. Sometimes the kids would cry. Sometimes the emergency boat wouldn't start so the kids would sit stranded on the other side of the lake and cry. Sometimes the counselors would laugh. This summer I will be working at a windsurfing shop in Hood River, Oregon on the Columbia River Gorge. I will sleep in the shadow of Mt. Hood and enjoy 30 mph winds every day. In the last two months I have managed to break my toe, lose a fingernail, dislocate my shoulder and nearly give myself a concussion. In the last week I have given myself a four inch bruise my arm. I like to snowboard. All the pictures contained within (and without) were taken by my burgeoning ability for photography. My secret identity is shrouded in international super-journalistic intrigue. Sometimes I write for the Humor section of the UMD Statesman. my technical proficienciesI have been producing nifty things in Dreamweaver and Photoshop for two years. Recently I have started handwriting my HTML code in Notepad. I managed to install a server-side blogging script on my real website, where I am currently immersed in bringing everything under the loving wing of a fine cascading style sheet. A few years ago I used FrontPage, but I have since abandoned it because it writes really sloppy code. Two years ago I used Adobe GoLive, but then my 30 day trial ran out and I forgot to trick my BIOS into thinking it was a month earlier to keep it working. I do not know how to use Flash. I don't think that there is anyone on this planet that knows how to use Flash. If things go awry and you feel like you're stuck on the other side of the lake as the counselors sit around on the dock and laugh, I may be able to help. If it appears I don't know the answer to a question it's probably because I don't. I build computers, but I'd rather not because I can't fix them. et al More details may follow as they become known. Can't wait that long? I can be reached at: ...or if you yell real loud I may jump over the banister and come arunnin'. |

Photo Dude - A nice weblog and photo journal kept by a fellow named Reid that didn't try to set his shoes on fire. I want this guy's camera. I want it bad. Wuda Wooch! - The UMD student outdoor club just went digital. Stop by and check out some rugged photos. Windsurfing Magazine - They make reading about it as much fun as doing it! Outside Magazine - Well-written prose about the outdoors and adventure. Happy Apple - A Minneapolis-based avant-garde jazz band. Come for the craziness. Stay for Dave King's rantings. "I have a blade." Matt Pond PA - A Philadelphia-based chamber pop group. Their Flash website inspired this layout. (more links to follow as I think of 'em) |
