Assignments
- There is a project deadline this week. You should be prepared to meet with
the instructor to bring in and share your work, showing substantial progress
toward your goal, consistent with your plan and contract.
- Be prepared to speak your Irish phrases from weeks 9 and 10, and to be familiar
with the important places in previous lessons on a map of Ireland.
- In the Shadow of the Glen provides a glimpse of rural Irish life
after the famine. What factors contribute to Nora's dilemma? Why should she
go? Why should she stay? What role does isolation play in her decision?
- Compare and contrast the ideas and ideals of Sinn Féin, home rule
advocates, and the IRB (Fenians).
- What were the reasons for the Land War of 1879-1882? What were the 3 Fs?
- List the accomplishments of Charles Stuart Parnell. What was the impact
of his downfall?
- What were the goals of the literary revival, the Gaelic League, and the
Gaelic Athletic Association?
- What did the Easter Rebellion of 1916 accomplish?
- What was the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921?
What did it mean for Ireland?
