| I. | 4 Unit Quizes (140
points) - Each quiz is worth 35 points. Online WebCT Quizes will be every three weeks. Quizes will be open from Wednesday 5:00 pm until Friday at noon. Quizes will be given online using the honor code. They are to be taken individually and without using text or note support. |
| II. | Research Papers (25 points) - Students will be divided into research groups to complete a research paper. Paper guidelines can be found online using the link to research papers. A second project will include a research critique and application paper. |
| III | Learning through Discussion (36 points) - Every Wednesday class will include learning through discussion for "critical text reading" in small groups. Students are asked to come prepared for these discussions having read the appropriate chapter and with notes using the learning through discussion framework as a guide. (3 points per week) |
| IV. | Service Learning and Reflective Journaling (60 points) - Each student will be expected to volunteer in the community of Birmingham as a service learning project for 2-3 hours per week. Students are also expected to keep a weekly reflective journal applying their experiences to course content. Journals may be integrated with the FSt and/or Visual Journals courses. See Journal criteria (5 points per week) |
| V. | In Class Assignments (34 points) - On ocassion, in class work will be collected and scores for points. This includes required field trip assignments. |
