I am Professor and Head of Political Science at the University of Minnesota Duluth where I teach courses in International Relations, Foreign Policy, and International Relations Theory. I am also Co-chair of the Diplomatic Studies Section of the International Studies Association for whom I coordinated their contribution to the Compendium Project, and Convener of the Group On Diplomacy of the British International Studies Association.

My research is focused on diplomacy, the English School, and the future of international relations in a post-state, hyper-plural world. I am currently working on two major projects: a co-edited collection of essays on America and diplomacy for The Hague Journal of Diplomacy; and a book-length project examining the idea of appeasement and its uses.
