How to prepare for an audition

The audition will include the following:
Prepared solos or studies (2 contrasting pieces or studies)
Scales (3-octave scales for violinists and violists)
Sight-reading

How to get ready for the audition
Choose the appropriate piece or study for your level of playing that demonstrates your strengths. In most cases you should refrain from playing exceptionally difficult literature, unless you can perform it very well. You should also stay away from pieces (or studies) that are too easy and do not adequately represent your level of playing (even if performed to perfection!)
The prepared solo or study need not be memorized.
Be prepared to play the entire piece or study (unless otherwise indicated)
Be prepared for the judge to cut part of your selection if the piece is too long
Sight-reading may be included. You will be given a reasonable amount of time to look over the sight-reading material. You will not be given a tempo or any assistance with rhythm, pitch, dynamics or style.

Tips for a successful audition
Be well rested
Do not perform the audition on an empty stomach (do not overeat either!)
Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine and caffeinated drinks
This is a formal audition, dress appropriately. Dress for success!
Never apologize for your mistakes or your health! Even if you are not feeling 100%, do the best you can, but JUST DO IT!
Allow yourself some slow and relaxed breaths; this will help calm your nerves. Slow down!
Look at the audition as an opportunity for an experience, rather than a judgment!
Above all BE PREPARED! KNOW YOUR PIECES!!!
