How to say my name
Origin: Dutch
Official pronunciation (from Webster's dictionary):
brought /'brot/
That is, it rhymes with "brought" as in "Sally Bradt brought a book to school today." (I heard this from my elementary school teachers ad nauseum - although not from my third grade teacher, who also happened to be my mom - and yes, I did have to call her Mrs. Bradt...but that's another story...)
Or another way to remember it is like the "brat" in "bratwurst" (can't believe I'm opening myself up to all those old food jokes again...)
Now, for a few pointers on how NOT to say it:
- It's not "brat" (although I'm not saying I've never been one...)
- It's not "brant" (please note the absence of the letter "N")
- It's not "brad-it" (??? not sure where this one came from but I've heard it several times lately)
One last comment - I'm really not that sensitive about this issue - just doing this as a public service for all those other "Bradts" out there (and there are a few in Duluth and many, I hear, in New York...)
