Stephen B. Castleberry, Ph.D. has been a Professor of Marketing in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics, University of Minnesota Duluth, since 1992. He teaches Principles of Marketing, Marketing Research, Fundamentals of Selling, Marketing Ethics, and Business, Government and Society (MBA). Prior to joining UMD he held positions at Northern Illinois University (UARCO Professor of Sales and Marketing endowed chair) and the University of Georgia. He has been department chairperson at both NIU and UMD.
Dr. Castleberry has published over forty-five referred journal articles in national publications including Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Journal of Business to Business Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management,, and others. He is the co-author of the best-selling textbook entitled Selling: Building Partnerships, now in its eighth edition. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Business Research and the Journal of Selling and Major Account Management. He is past editor of the Journal of Applied Business Research.
He has done consulting work for international as well as regional businesses and appeared in eight segments of a PBS special on personal selling called The Sales Connection. Current areas of research include sales communication models, sales training, salesperson listening, and business ethics. Prior to returning to academe, Steve sold computers for Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys).
Steve’s interests outside of University responsibilities include outdoor activities and just about everything related to living on his 100 acre working farm in northern Wisconsin. He serves his community as a firefighter, engineer, and served for ten years as a medical First Responder on the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department. He and Susie, his wife and partner, also write books, own a publishing company, and raise eight wonderful children.
