Management of Innovation and Technology

MGTS 4480

Instructor: Sanjay Goel

Welcome to an exciting course on Management of Innovation and Technology. The overall purpose of this course is to approach technology issues from a management perspective, so that the general management issues in managing technology-intensive (high-tech) firms are demystified.

Here is an illustrative list of questions that will be addressed in this course - and questions that you should feel more competent about answering after the course.

What does a high-tech context look and feel like?

How can technology help build a competitive advantage?

What is the difference between radical and incremental innovation, and how can firms use this distinction?

How to make innovation routine in organizations?

Why is collaboration necessary but difficult in the high-tech sector? How can firms become good collaborators and achieve their collaboration objectives?

How do firms use networks to improve their innovation output, increase their chances of survival, and build a competitive advantage? How can they become good network players?

I design my schedule in two parts to keep the schedule of readings current, and to make adjustments in pacing and content within the overall objectives of the course. Here is the link to Schedule 1. Please review it and note the dates for important milestones (e.g. assignment 1, quizzes, etc.). Here is the link to Schedule 2.
