Basic and advanced laboratory statistics. Lectures on this topic will be every Tuesday from 2 - 3 for the Fall Semester. Topics by week.
Three of the Following Experiments.
All experiments will be done in groups of two
(one three member group may be necessary). Groups will work together
to set up, run, and clean up their experiment. Groups may work
together to prepare reports, but each member of the group will
have a different type of report to hand in for each experiment.
Groups will be assigned on the first day of class.
Grading: Straight Scale (90% =A, 80%=B, ...)
· Lab Book/ Participation 5 % · Daily Progress Reports (Group) 10% · Memo to Customer 10 % · Internal Memo10 % · Memo to Customer 10 % · Oral Presentation (Technical) 20 % · Technical Paper (Draft) 10 % · Technical Paper (Final) 15 % · Technical Paper (Critique) 15 % · Poster Presentation 10 % The Lab Book/Participation part of your grade will be based on maintaining a proper and appropriate laboratory notebook (which must be handed in at end of semester, as well as during the class at selected intervals), and participation which will be determined by your lab partners. Guidelines for each report are at the end of this packet.
Report Schedule:
Each member of a group will be assigned a position (1, 2, or 3). This position will determine which report you will do for each laboratory, see the following schedule.
Labs B and C are broken into two parts (B1 & B2). The first part will have you follow a standard procedure to learn how to use the equipment. The second part of the lab you are required to expand on, improve, alter, and/or explore the work done in the first half experiment.
**Your first half report will need to discuss your proposed changes for the second half.**
