: I have long believed the same thing, ignorance is the reason that people do not know how to discuss anything. If all the world knew the rules of debate and followed them, then there would never be another misunderstanding. I tought my husband the rules some twenty years ago when we were first married. Number one, always focus on the issue at hand and never bring up old issues. No one else ever follows that rule.I think that is because everyone is so bent on playing the victim. That is a roll that I find very distasteful, and until everyone else does too, no one will ever 'fight' by the rules. Logic should prevail and disputes should be settled quickly but most people are sophists and let emotion rule where logic should riegn. Maybe we should all get together and advocate teaching logic in grade school. As I see it this whole country started down the slipery slope years ago and it is time we got a foothold on the madness.
