: LOOKING FOR YOUR OPINION,ANSWER OR A COMMENTARY ON THE QUESTION : I have just returned from an extended visit to Cuba. Without a long drawn : out explanation, I can say that CANF & the RIGHT WING Exile media : propaganda and misinformation : is outrageous. Cuba is nothing like the constant negative spin that is : preached by these groups. Having stated that, I would like to pose a : question and seek a reasonable and truthful response. The question is, in : 1959 when CASTRO /CHE and the rebel army : entered Havana, why was there no opposition? This question is based on my : perceptions, and by a lot of other people that I've spoke with in Cuba; : people of : all ages, in the city of Havana, and in outlying rural areas.and this : opinion especially prevelant among the older people. the ones left behind. : The revolution had been going on for at least 2-1/2 years prior to 1959 and : was certainly not a secret to anyone. Obviously there was much concern about : CASTRO as evidenced by the original mass exodus of the (now Cuban-American : Exiles}prior to the fall of : Havana and continuing for the next few years.What do you think,when the : people who had the most to lose will not offer any resistance,and you know : that they knew CASTRO was trouble,so why did they{Cuban-American : Exiles}leave Cuba? : When you leave your country, family and dignity behind in order to save : yourself,while the others are left to fend for themselves it shows a lack of : courage,patriotism,and character. : . : There is a wide spread opinion out side of the Cuban-American exile : community that the first wave of Cuban refugees to come to the USA were : Traitors and Cowards.. Todays Cuban American Exiles community knew enough : about Castro and what his revolution meant to get whatever valuables they : could take and flee Cuba.In 1959 todays Cuban -American exile community : were the : people who had the knowledge,money,education and the numbers to halt : Castro's advance,or at least be prepared to dicuss : the future the revolution he envisioned. : In hindsight its obvious that in 1959 the Cuban -Americans exile community : did share the same vision,or ideals as CASTRO,hence the reason for the mass : exodus of all the young-middle age potential counter-insurgents.! : The Cuban-American exile community in 1959-61 did not have the intestinal : fortitude needed to settle the differences, with Castro in the same fashion : as CASTRO settled his differences with the BATISTA regime. : Instead of offering some resistance.or better yet take off to the mountains : and then set up a provisional government,they decided to leave..If this had : set a provisional goverment the US military would have,had no choice but to : intervene and "smoke out " what Castro plans were., No ! they were taking : no chances,instead : they fled to the US and put the burden on the US. The asking of the US : government to help,would have been acceptable,if some type of organized : resistance was displayed in 1959-61,but the running away from their own : country and putting the : responsibilities on the US to restore Cuba to the pre _Castro days just : doesn't wash. Please i don't believe for SECOND that Castro : duped"everyboby" the intellectuals, Business class ect. : When the bold but absurd attempt to overthrow the revolutionary regime at : the Bay of Pigs finally rolled around on april17- 22 1961,it was too late. : The plan was simple and lucicrous The Bay of PIGS was a tragicomedy with : the CIA convicing Kennedy that the Cuba population would rise up in arms : against CASTRO/CHE. WRONG!! : Castro had no choice but to arm the population.Something he would have : never done if had not been certain of their loyalty and support, : The rebel army only had 25,000 men.The result was Castro's 200,000 : militiiamen played a central role in Cuba victory.The militias allow : Castro to deploy an early warning network. The militias training and contol : was directed by CHE GUEVERA, Without the militia.Castro military strategy : would not have been viable;,without CHE the militias would not have been : reliable : The bottom line is that Castro political instincts in conjuction with his : network of spies and the leadership of CHE lead to a brutal defeat : . : As a matter of record CHE GUEVERA personally thanked Kennedy's envoy at : Punta Del Este. "thanks to you""we were able to cosolidate the revolution : at a particularly difficult time " The Bay of Pigs fiasco allow the regime : to tighten up and close ranks,mounting the formidable state security : apparatus that would become the committees for the defense of the revolution : . : " Fidel Castro has manage in 1961 to lead his country well and truly into : the communist camp against the wishes and instincts of the majority of : people This was a tour de Force,which not even the prodigious Fidel Castro : could have brought off had it not been for that blue -print for : diaster,---the april invasion-an operation ,which,as seen by the British : Ambassador,made the Suez campaign look like a successful picnic.... I doubt : whether the United States prestige was lower in any country than it was : shortly after the invasion." SO FORGET YOUR BAY PIGS SCENERIO-CASTRO : OUTWITTED THE : COUNTER-INSURGENTS AND THE US. : : The reason Castro's revolutiontion succeeded was the that the Cuban rebels : in 1959, and the pro Batista Cubans, who are the Cuban-American exiles had : one overwhelming distinction that made the difference. The rebels were : willing to fight and die for Cuba and their cause in order to create a : better society for "all "Cubans Whereas the Cuban_American Exiles were not : willing to fight or die for their their Country hence they ran like : cowards. : I see no : other possible explanation.Yes! in 1961 after Castro was in power ,some 1500 : brave souls were willing to fight Castro to late and not enought, : The Cuban-American exile community must be aware of all the civil : wars,coups, and failed plots that have : occurred around the world in the last forty years. The majority were : unsuccessful,but attempts have been made. An example, the rebels in Colombia : have been waging : a civil war for thirty plus years and now control forty percent of : Colombia, : while fighting The US backed Colombian government, the para-militaries, : state police, and the USA : indirectly through HUGH AMOUNTS OF MONEY, WEAPONS, TECHNOLOGY, ADVISORS AND : SOON SOLDIERS), yet they keep dying and fighting because in their view they : are fighting for their country, families, and human dignity. : As I previously stated their have been many attempts through out the : world to affect change during the past forty years, : however none are CUBAN-AMERICANS I am nor referring to any half baked plots : ,i agree that early a few febble attempts were made. : The "victories" the Cuban -America enxile community claim ,are pathetic : tradegies that penalizes their the own relatives like:The Embargo,Cuban : adjustment act of 1966,and now their feeble attempt to kidnap a six year old : Cuban boy from his father.The only reason anything gets accomplish ,is that : the US political system is pandering to this group of cowards.Their would : not even be situations such as ELIAN ,if they had done the right : thing forty years ago. : The entire world knows that the "EMBARGO" stated objectives of : toppling CASTRO.has failed Cuban -American exile community in Miami,who is : led by the Cuban American National Foundation(CANF} maintains control of a : majority of Cubans in Miami by their use of threats, boycotts,personal : attacks, political arm twisting and loss of business to oder to quell : "dissenters" : Political candidates that do follow the party line are voted out office,or : not supported by CANF money. The local news is editorialized,and the Miami : Herald is a laughing stock ,the Herald has no respect. : The CANF has a total disregard for freedom of speech, and constantly : embellished or outright lies about : what is going on in Cuba. ,An excellent example is the exploitation of : Elian Gonzales,and the withholding of facts like Elian's stepfather was a : smuggler of humans : and recently had been released from Cuban prison after returning from the : United : States. also there is no mention that the boat would not have sunk if it : wasn't overloaded by : nine people so that he could collect his thousand dollars per head. If, in : fact, he : really loved the boy and his mother, the three of them could have made the : trip safety : Eventually, the people of Cuban descent who were born in America will learn : the truth. In the end, the fraud that the Cuban -American exile community : {class of 59-61} perpetrated on them will earn the " PATRIOTS" their place : in the hearts of their descendents, relatives : and the people of the USA and Cuba. This will be a place of disgust and : disgrace: the same place all people hold COWARDS AND TRAITORS! : Looking forward to your response.
