Help Cutting and Pasting To the Forum

Students sometimes have difficulty pasting word processed materials into the Forum editing window. This is a result of incompatability between the wordprocessor format codes and the UNIX language the forum operates with. If this happens student get an error message indicating their posting has failed, or they find that the end of their posting has been cut off. What follows should solve either problem. This procedure should enable you to write, spell check, and grammar check your posts in a word processor and then paste them into the Forum editor.

  1. Write, spell check, and grammar check in your word processor.
  2. Click Save As on the File menu and change the settings to save the file to the Desktop as a Text Only file or an ASCII file.
  3. Close your word processor
  4. Locate your file on the desktop and double click it.
  5. The file should open in NotePad.
  6. On the NotePad Edit menu click Select All and then, again on the Edit menu, click Copy.
  7. Open the forum and select New Post or Reply and paste your post into the editing window.
  8. Type in a title and submit your post using the Submit button.
  9. Move your NotePad file from the desktop to the Recycle Bin.
  10. Empty the Recycle Bin.
