I feel misunderstood, misrepresented and all in all lost in this world of logically driven, power hungry, greedy and know it all people. I am a member, like most of the rest of you, of the GENERATION X. What is generation X anyway? This is a label that has been put on us by the "leaders," or whatever you want to call them, of this country. Does it mean that we're a new breed of people, conceived and raised in test tubes and when we were finally displayed to the world, we were quickly given this very unflattering label.
We live in a world where things are quickly changing in good and bad ways. There are gang problems(GENERATION X), increased drug use among us, the GENERATION X), high dropout rates in high school(GENERATION X), and our parents and people in authority positions are very worried because in 20 years or so, we, the GENERATION X, will be running this country. Whatever will we do?
Now hold up a second, I will be the first and the last to admit that all of the problems I have mentioned above are just that, problems. But, I find it hard to believe that these problems came about by the conception of you and I. In my group today, we were talking about The Big Chill and discussing the fact that these people were much like you and I(maybe an overgeneralization) are now. Here they all are, highly successful people in a big house, driving a used porsche, given, and staring in their own T.V. shows. All the while, they still smoked a jilla back in the day and maybe even did a line here and there (I'm not condoning the later of the two). But what was that generation?
Hippies, bud smokin, beer totin, acid droppin and hey..... guess who's running our country now? I'm not assuming that everyone on top of the social ladder were heavy into the hippie scene, but what I am saying and what they're not is that they did inhale! And dammit, I'm going to also and I strongly encourage you to do the same. Live life to it's fullest, do whatever the hell you want to do and whatever makes you feel good. If you don't, you will regret it. I'm going to party it up, then I'm going to light one up. And when the time comes I'm going to shake shit up! You and me folks, watch out all of you labeler's of us the GENERATION X, cause we're coming gun's blazing. I don't know about the rest of you , but I'm going to make my mark on this country, maybe erase the 5 trillion dollar deficit, maybe invent something, end poverty, legalize marijuana who knows. But I tell all of you, we're not GENERATION X, we're GENERATION NEXT (a page out of pepsi's book, sorry, it's flowin) and we're going to run this country better than it's ever been run before. We will run this country and everything will be just fine, who's with me on that. How do you like them apple's?
