I love the beatles. I know that they are all in their fifties now, except John and are no longer the band that they used to be. But it doesn't matter to me. I still love Paul McCartney and think he's own of the greatest artists of all time.
The Beatles started out in their hometown of Liverpool. They weren't too big. Just a group of guys who played at the local hangout. Ringo wasn't the original drummer. He joined the group quite by chance. They had two others. One quite because he didn't feel like they were going anywhere. The other was dropped because he was unreliable. The Beatles had a gig and their drummer didn't really want to go. Someone knew someone who knew Ringo and so he joined them just for the day. They loved him and he became a permanent fixture. I was curious as to what the other drummer thought once the Beatles made it big. It turned out that he died of a brain tumor a year after leaving the beatles. It was fate that ringo joined them.
The beatles weren't nearly as popular in England as they were in the United States. They were originally more of a punk band. But their manager convinced them to trade in their black leather for gray suits and the beatles as we know them were born.
Interestingly enough, the first record company that they tried to sign on with didn't want them. They felt that the beatles were a dead end band headed nowhere. I bet that they are still kicking themselves for that misjudgement.
Teenaged girls screamed and fainted when the beatles came on stage. Why? They threw themselves onto the stage and cried themselves into a stupor. What was it about the beatles that encouraged such behavior? I don't know. I wasn't there. But their music touches me in such a way that I believe that if I had been there, I would have done the same.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney had a wonderful thing going. They were both excellent singers, musicians, and composers. Having all those qualities put together in one band is amazing enough. Let alone in two separate people in the same band. George and Ringo did some songs, too. They also are excellent musicians and singers. They didn't really shine until they went off on their own after the beatles breakup. It is truly amazing that three of the four beatles have been friends since junior high and were all so incredibly talented that they are known and loved internationally, even today.
The beatles held together pretty long as a band. They began in the 1950s when they were about fifteen and lasted until the end of the 60s.
Many people still enjoy the music of the 50s and 60s. They are classics and will probably still be around in several generations, along with Mozart and Beethoven. Perhaps the beatles were so greatly loved because they reflected the people of the times. They sang about things that still ring true today. Their earlier music and dress was a reflection of the 1950s. It seems funny to picture popular bands dressing up in suits and ties. But that is what they did back then. The beatles later music and dress reflected the 60s. They sang almost nonsense songs unless you really listen to them. They dressed in outrageous attire-the sgt pepper and magical mystery tours are perfect examples of how wild they became. It is almost as if their were two beatles-those of the 50s and those of the 60s. I believe that their legacy will last for a long time.
