I just wanted to list why I think that Harris is an ass. I do not always have a problem with what he says, but how he says it.
The first thing that I want to point out is that the main reason that Hindus so not eat cows and worship them is because it is an important part of their religion. It is not necessarily a regional issue, as Harris implies. Many people who are not Hindu live in the same part of the world, even in the same country. There are many Moslems in India, yet they do not participate in "cow love," and they use cows the same way that Hindus do(flooring, plowing and fuel).
Another issue I have with Harris is that he stated that messiahs were a "common" occurance. Taking population into consideration, messiahs have definately not been commonplace in the history of the world.
Harris stated that Jesus was a militant-messiah, and that the Jews saw him as a revolutionary who was going to create a mighty kingdom for them. If we buy this interpretation, why would a crowd of Jews scream to have him crucified? It makes alot more sense if they are crucifying a man who is claiming to be a false "god." If Jesus was a military leader, why would his own people want him executed?
Harris also often presents things that are not fact as if they are.
In "Prince of Peace" he states that when Jesus said "Render what is Caesar that which is Caesar's..." Harris states that the crowd could only know this to mean one thing. This is a rediculous statement. There is no way that all of the people listening would have thought the same thing, or even be aware of the other incident without mass media.
My last but most grievous problem with Harris is that he tells the reader that if they do not agree with him, they are not using logic or sound reasoning. I absolutely rebel when told that I cannot have my own opinion, and this is one of those cases. He is welcome to his opinion, but so is every reader who reads his book.
Thanks for reading this far, feel free to comment or add your own opinions, I would really like to hear what you have to say about some of this.
Thanks again, Erin
