Rules on Catalog Use

Return to: Student Affairs Homepage

General Information - A student normally may fulfill degree requirements identified in any combination of University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) catalogs that have been in effect since entering a college or univeristy and within eight years before graduation from UMD. The contents of any UMD catalog are subject to change without notice to accommodate requirements of accrediting agencies, budgetary restrictions, and policy modifications; and these changes may be applied to current students. Information about any changes can be obtained from appropriate department and college offices or the Office of the Registrar.

Students may use one catalog to determine degree requirements for a major, another catalog for minor requirements, and yet another catalog for liberal education distribution requirements. However, there must be consistency of catalog requirements within those categories.

Here's an example to clarify this point: A student who began at UMD in the fall of 1996 may elect the 1995-1997 catalog to meet liberal education requirements, the 1997-1999 catalog for the upper division SBE requirements, and the 1999-2001 catalog for a minor.

If you have any questions about catalog use, please ask your advisor or a student affairs staff member.
