Former Students of Ted Pedersen

The following are all students who I have advised as MS students at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and who have gone on to PhD or MS programs after finishing their MS degrees here. One reason they don't stay at UMD for a PhD is that we don't offer such a degree, although this list suggests we could have had a really great PhD program over the last few years, at least based on the students and where they have landed. :) Some of this information is also available in the AI Genealogy Project.

PhD programs

Yanbo Xu (M.S. July 2011 in Math/Stat, co advised with Kang James ) Yanbo is a PhD student at Carnegie-Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute as of Fall 2012.
Varada Kolhatkar M.S. August 2009. Now a PhD student at the University of Toronto in the Computer Science Department.
Anagha Kulkarni M.S. July 2006 and former Graduate Research Assistant. Now a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute. Her advisor is Jamie Callan.
Mahesh Joshi M.S. August 2006 [co-advised with Rich Maclin]. Now a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute. His advisor is Carolyn Rose.
Dr. Bridget McInnes M.S. December 2004. Ph.D. September 2009 in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). Her co-advisors were John Carlis and Ted Pedersen. Bridget is now a post-doc at the University of Minnesota working with Ted Pedersen and Serguei Pakhomov.
Dr. Saif Mohammad M.S. August 2003. Ph.D. January 2008 from the University Toronto in Computer Science. His advisor was Graeme Hirst. Saif is now a Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada.
Dr. Siddharth "Sid" Patwardhan M.S. August 2003. Ph.D. September 2009 from the University of Utah in the School of Computing. His advisor was Ellen Riloff. Sid is now a post-doc at the IBM TJ Watson Research Lab working on the Deep QA Project.
Dr. Satanjeev "Bano" Banerjee M.S. December 2002 and former Graduate Research Assistant. PhD 2011 from Carnegie Mellon University Language Technologies Institute. His advisor was Alex Rudnicky. Now at Twitter Research.

MS programs

Amruta Purandare M.S. August 2004 and former Graduate Research Assistant. Earned a second M.S. in August 2006 in Intelligent Systems at the University of Pittsburg.
Aditi Paluskar, M.S. November 2001. Earned a second M.S. from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Engineering Management in 2003.
