Course Objectives:

  1. To help the student develop skills in listening, understanding, and appreciating music.
  2. To acquaint the student with the history of Western music as well as music of other cultures.



Required Materials:



Attendance Requirements:

Each student will be allowed a maximum of three unexcused absences per semester. Each absence after this allowed amount will result in the lowering of half a letter grade per absence.


Concert Reports:

Each student will submit three concert reports forms. Forms are online at www.d.umn.edu/~tschoen. All three reports must be received by 12:50 p.m., May 2. No reports will be excepted after the May 2 deadline. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!

Grading:

Grades will be determined by the following criteria:
3 tests worth 100 points each
3 concert reports worth 50 points each
Homework and class participation worth 100 points
550 points total for the semester

Your grade in this course will be determined by dividing the number of points you have earned by the number of points possible (550)

A grade of 59 or below will receive an F.
