How did the bakery ever come to be called the Positively Third Street Bakery? When it came down to naming the bakery one of the original partners, Elizabeth, thought it would be great to add the word "positively" to the already suggested "third street bakery". It's been said that she may have been influenced by Bob Dylan because she was kind of a hippie.

The Positively Third Street Bakery opened in 1983 as a partnership. Three years later it became a cooperative owned bakery and remains so to this day. The building, built around 1906, originally held a small grocery store called Bertulla's, which opened in 1926. Eventually the grocery store evolved into the North Haven Bakery in the early sixties before it became the Positively Third Street Bakery.
