UMD CROSS COUNTRY

The Men's cross country team took another first place finish for one of the best years the school has ever seen. This past weekend at the Pine Hill Invite, Robb Winterfeld took home yet another individual win, and the new course record. The feat may sound a bit larger than what its worth, noting it is the first time ever ran as an 8K. Winterfeld ran the course in 25:41. Nate Beerling came in second place, finishing just a titch under 26 minutes at 25:59

The Bulldogs hope to continue the winning ways this upcoming weekend as the dog's venture to LaCrosse as they take on such heavyweights as the University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison

The team is currently ranked nationally among the top 25 teams, and is gradually rising in the standings. The team's highest accomplishment was when the bulldog's placed 2nd place out of 43 teams at the Roy Griak, being edged out by Minnesota State Mankato by just 10 points. This was also without the help of All-American Adam Gellerstedt, who has been bothered with an injury.

About the Men's Team

-This is the first year in which every member sees visions of National's. Entering the year, there were 4 head runners that could be the top runner. Nate Beerling, Adam Gellerstedt, Ben Kimmes, and Robb Winterfeld all had the potential to become the top runner. The 5th runner which would truly determine how the season would fare, was between a slew of runners, consisting of Sam Anderson, Neil Olson, Evan Slocum, Bill Revering, Andy Wenger, and a number of Freshmen recruits that could develop through our system.

Of the potential 5th man, captain Bill Revering has made strides to be apart of the top 5, and one of the illustrious potential bread winners. Revering has finished several races in low 26 minutes. Freshmen Brian Polski has also made large contributions to the top 5 due to Adam Gellerstedts injury.

Of the big gun's, Junior Robb Winterfeld has shown the most prestige as he has won two races. His lowest showing on the awards stand was at the Nike Invite/Roy Griak Invitational when he placed 7th, but out of over 500 runners, that isn't too shabby.

Gellerstedt has finally been given clearance for the heel injury, and started running with hopes to make a large contribution for the conference and region meet.
