Greetings Wild Ones members and others interested in native plant landscaping and protection.

Below you'll find details regarding our June meeting and field trip on Park Point along with other important announcements. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Andrews) at 727-9340 or carol_andrews@hotmail.com (Ruth Leathers sends this email on my behalf as she is keeper of email addresses).

  1. NEXT MEETING: June 27, 6:00 pm. Meet at the airport parking lot on Park Point. Kinnan Stauber, chair of the Park Point Environmental Committee, will accompany us on a hike and have plant checklists for us. The checklist was compiled from a survey of Minnesota Point made by Gary Walton for the Minnesota Point Environmental Management Plan. On our two-hour hike we will check out the plants of Park Point, a unique habitat that differs from most of the rest of the Arrowhead region (for starters, it's sandy!).

The hike will be followed by a short but important meeting at Evelyn and Alden's house. The main agenda item for the meeting is ELECTIONS.
    Current officers are:
    President: Carol Andrews
    Vice President: Bill Steele
    Treasurer: Carol Steele
Secretary and Membership Coordinator: Ruth Leathers

If you are interested in running for any office, please let me know or come to the meeting and throw your name in the hat. Note that we are LOOKING FOR A NEW TREASURER as Carol Steele would like to hand over that responsibility to someone else for a while. It would make my day - no, my whole month - if someone were to contact me to express interest. :)

  2. Remember to put the July 25 meeting on your calendar. It will feature a presentation on photography by renowned photographer Eric Hahn, followed by a tour and photography practice at the Wild Ones Community Garden in Leif Erikson Park.

  3. HELP NEEDED for HARTLEY NATURE CENTER LANDSCAPE PLANNING: I have attended the first two meetings of a subcommittee formed to come up with plans for landscaping around the new nature center to be built at Hartley starting later this year. Actual landscaping will occur in 2003; however, we would like to have final plans, including a plant list, by this fall. The subcommittee is interested in having Wild Ones recommend plants and designs for a large portion of the area to be landscaped. If YOU are INTERESTED in attending a couple of low-key meetings to help brainstorm and come up with some plans, please let me know ASAP as I would like to schedule a meeting for the end of June or early July. It should be a fun project.

  4. HELP NEEDED for Wild Ones Community Garden maintenance. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Candice Richards at crichar1@d.umn.edu or let me know.

I can be reached days at 218/727-9340 if you have any questions, or at carol_andrews@hotmail.com (unless my goofy email account is overfull of junk mail!).

Hope to see you soon!

Carol Andrews
