Wild Ones Outing to Sugar Loaf Cove Restoration Site

All interested persons are cordially invited to join us for a tour of the Sugar Loaf Cove Restoration site near Lutsen. Please see below for details. Feel free to forward this message to others who may be interested. Hope to see you there! - Carol A.

WHEN: Saturday, July 21. We'll aim to meet at the site by high noon. Carpoolers from Duluth will gather at 9:00 AM at the Brighton Beach parking lot (located at the NE end of Duluth where Highway 61 begins). Let me (Carol) know if you'd like to be picked up in Two Harbors or farther up the shore or if you plan to meet us there and need directions.

WHAT: Terri Port-Wright will provide a tour of Sugar Loaf Cove near Lutsen MN on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Thousands of native plants, trees and shrubs were planted, primarily by volunteers, to restore a large area. Time permitting, we may also stop at a State Park to look at some unique plant communities and/or stop at Betty's pies for some sustenance.

WHO: Everyone is welcome, including Wild Ones Members and all other interested persons, so bring a friend. If you have questions about the outing, call Carol at 218/727-9340 (work) or email carol_andrews@hotmail.com. Persons interested in learning more about Sugar Loaf Cove can contact the Project Director, Terri Port-Wright, at (218) 879-7282 or tport@duluth.infi.net.

FOOD: Wild Ones will provide a light snack, but we suggest that everyone bring a bag lunch and beverage. The interpretive center is done now, so we can each lunch there, do a brief orientation, and then do a hike. Water and a restroom are available as well.

WHAT IF IT RAINS? We'll go anyway. Plants look good in the rain too, and there's always the hope that the rain will stop just in time.

RSVP - There's no need to sign up beforehand, but if you think that you will likely come on the outing, please let me know so that I have a rough idea of numbers and know who to look for when we meet to carpool.
