Fun stuff:
- Edible Natives - from the backyard to your
dining table. Paula Westmoreland is our guest speaker.
Imagine your back yard as a forest garden stocked with multifunctional
plants that provide habitat and food for birds, beneficial insects and
other wildlife, while supplying you and your family with food, flowers,
and medicine. Paula Westmoreland will join Wild Ones on Wednesday
evening, November 17, to explore native edibles in the northern forest
garden. In addition to their food value we will discuss the plants'
ecological functions and other human uses in the back yard ecosystem.
A short business meeting will commence promptly at 6:30; Paula's talk
begins at 7:00.
Paula Westmoreland completed a Masters degree at the University of
Minnesota focused on ecology, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable
agriculture. In 2001 she was certified as a permaculture designer from
the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute. Paula's company,
Ecological Gardens, applies this knowledge to the design of sustainable
landscapes.
The 7:00 presentation is $4, free to Wild Ones and Hartley members.
Hartley Nature Center is located at 3001 Woodland Avenue, Duluth.
