Projects
Our local Arrowhead chapter has several ongoing projects, including the community
garden in Leif Erikson Park; plant rescues; efforts to battle buckthorn, honeysuckle,
and other invasive exotic plants; helping the Loaves and Fishes house and possibly
Habitat for Humanity with landscaping; and many more.
Future projects:
- Join Wild Ones for a planting party 1 pm this Sunday, November 7, 2004, at
Hartley Nature Center, 3001 Woodland Ave, Duluth.
Boreal Natives has offered
Wild Ones FREE end-of-the-season plants for our native landscape at Hartley Nature
Center, and we need help getting them into the ground. Dress for the weather, and
bring a trowel and kneeling pad if you have them. Hot drinks will be provided.
This planting project will fulfill part of Wild Ones' service agreement with Hartley
Nature Center. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Andrews, Arrowhead
Chapter President, at 730-9954.
- HARTLEY PLANTING: (Spring, Summer and Fall)
Volunteers are needed to plant native plants at Hartley Nature Center. Please bring
your own trowel. Carol Andrews would like you to let her know if you can be there
(phone 730-9954), but you are welcome to show up even if you didn't RSVP!
Featured projects from the past:
- HARTLEY PLANTING:
Volunteers are needed to plant shrubs, plants, etc. at the new Hartley Nature Center.

Tuesday, July 8, 2003, 6:30-8:30 pm
Friday, September 19, 2003, 3:00 - 7:00 pm
Saturday, September 20, 2003, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
- TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY (May 13 and 14, 2003):
May brings special opportunities to bask in the warm sunshine on the Park Point
dunes while risking weather, poison ivy, rain, and prickly pines. Here is your chance
to share this memorable event with 150 5th-graders from Stowe and Lester Park
Elementary Schools. The kids will be prepped on May 12th about dune ecology, sand,
and how to plant trees and beach grass.
On TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY (May 13 and 14) three classes and then four classes will come
to Park Point to have a hands-on experience with combating erosion problems. They will
be here to help plant trees and beach grass.
TIME: The classes plan to arrive by 9:45, will divide into three groups, and start
planting by 10 am. We only have them until 11, so we need "Planting Mentors" to assist
them and to keep things working smoothly.
Other planting opportunities will be: Saturdays, May 10, 17, 24, from 9 am to noon.
If you can help, meet near the boardwalks (look for cars with shovels and buckets and
boxes of trees) and bring a shovel! Also helpful are gloves, hat, sand-proof
shoes.

Andrews at 730-9954.
