The Advisee's Primer
By now, you have determined that I am your advisor. There are just a few things
you should know about our advisement process.
- Advisement is required for all BA and BFA Theatre students. A hold is
put on your record in the computer system until you meet with your advisor
and they lift the hold.
- Our program is carefully put together and needs to be taken in sequence
to insure graduating in four years.
- The department takes very seriously the responsibility to offer high quality
advisement.
What you need to know about my approach to advisement.
- I do not post the schedule sheets on my door like other faculty members.
You must get to me directly, either in person or via e-mail or phone to make
an appointment with me during the advisement period. I keep all of my appointments
in one calendar. Look up the date and time you will be able to register with
the computer (called Queue Time). Then make an appointment with me at least
one week before that date.
- When you come to your advisement appointment, bring your BFA Handbook,
your Bulletin, and your registration schedule for the semester we are discussing.
You should also have an idea of what you plan to enroll in.
- I can offer you advice about registration, and many other topics. I can
advise you about your craft, your academics, your future professional goals,
and various other topics that you might bring up. At the very least, I will
advise you about registration. You can decide my role as your advisor.
- If you are BFA qualifier, and my advisee, I will be helping you prepare
your qualifying audition/interview during Spring Semester.
Don't be a stranger! I check e-mail regularly. I can be hard to find sometimes
but I keep scheduled appointments. Be sure to take registration seriously.
You can also use the SFA Peer Advisor to get help navigating the
UMD system.Their office is located in the School
of Fine Arts office across from the Tweed Museum. Be sure to use all of the
resources available to
you.
